It passed on from hand to hand until, during the Age of Thirty Kingdoms, its bearer was surprised (and killed) by orcs, and the Band was again lost. The Band remained lost until the early years of the Reign of Cold Fire, when it was discovered on the beach by a lowly fisherman. Pelagios kept the Band until his death at sea, when it was lost. When he surrendered at last, the Tyrant granted him amnesty, and some short number of years later, Pelagios became one of the Tyrant’s advisors as well as a trusted friend. The Band was worn by Pelagios Epiphanios, who was the last general and King to stand before the Holy Tyrant in the Crusades of Unification. She took it up, and kept it herself for her long life, as she gained influence and status among the elven courts, for she herself had also been splashed by Tinirian’s bloods. As he lay dying, his might bled into the sword he still carried, his bravery into his shield, his secret hatred and mistrust into the weapon that slew him - but his memory, his wisdom, flowed into the circlet, imbuing it with its power.įourteen days later, the circlet was recovered by (?) from the battlefield where it had fallen. Tinirian of the Shattered Shield, who took under his protection those who died valiantly in battle, was himself slain a year and a day after he received the band. ![]() It was no more than an ornament, but it pleased Tinirian, and he wore it into battle when it erupted that year. She delivered it as an offering to her god, Tinirian, Lord of Battle and Singer of Songs. ![]() The band was forged of starlight and silver in the year the heavens fell, by an Elven smith named (?). Unfortunately there is no filter to wear the circlet is to be subject to all of them. While it contains its share of great things - works of great art and beauty, moments of triumph, inspirational speeches, acts of love, glorious victories - it also contains memories of death, betrayal, despair, grief, greed, hatred, pain, and so on. Thus it has accumulated a vast store of memories since it was forged, some wonderful, some dreadful. When worn upon the brow, it records all the thoughts, actions, and memories of the wearer, and makes them available to any and all wearers in future. The Band of Sorrows is a narrow unadorned circlet of pure silver.
